Evening Multi-Vehicle Wreck on Highway 76 in Vista Kills 2 and Injures 1
VISTA, CA (January 21, 2019) – Two people were killed and another one was hospitalized following a multi-vehicle crash Monday night in unincorporated Vista.
The fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 76 at East Vista Way.
According to the California Highway Patrol, at least four vehicles were involved. A lifted pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed and rear-ended a Hyundai sedan while stopped at a traffic light.
Two passengers in a Hyundai sedan were killed in the crash. Their identities were not immediately available pending notification of their family members.
A third passenger of the Hyundai was taken to Palomar Hospital with major injuries, CHP officials said.
No injuries were reported in the other two involved vehicles.
Two left lanes were blocked for more than 4 hours while investigators worked on the scene.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
