Virginia Turcotte Fatally Struck by 16-year-old Driver in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 26, 2018) – A 65-year-old woman died Monday night after being struck by a car in the Serra Mesa area of San Diego.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 65-year- old Virginia Turcotte of San Diego.
According to the San Diego police, at about 7:10 p.m. Monday, Turcotte was crossing in the 3300 block of Ruffin Road at Village Glen Drive when she was struck by a 2017 Hyundai sedan operated by a 16-year-old driver.
It was reported that Turcotte was walking within a marked crosswalk near the Village Glen Apartments with her adult children. Officers said they began crossing the north side of the intersection in the crosswalk and then the family separated. The adult children made it safely to the east curb, while Turcotte was struck in the number two lane of northbound Ruffin Road.
The victim was taken to the Sharp Memorial Hospital via an ambulance, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The police said the 16-year-old driver, whose name was not released, remained at the scene. It is yet to be determined whether drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident.
