Tragic Fatality and Serious Injury in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 Near Los Alamos
Santa Barbara County, CA (October 2, 2024) On Monday afternoon, a person lost their life, while another was hurt in a violent traffic crash on Highway 101.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD), the horrific crash happened at about 12:34 p.m. on a wooded stretch of Highway 101 between Alisos Canyon Road and Highway 154, south of Los Alamos.
Reports say that a vehicle veered off Highway 101 and crashed near Woodchopper Hill, north of Highway 154. Officials say that the accident involved a single vehicle plunging around 75 feet from the roadway, resulting in one fatality and serious injuries to another passenger.
SBCFD confirmed that a male victim died at the scene, while a female passenger with major injuries was airlifted to Marian Regional Medical Center by a Calstar Helicopter.
No other individuals were involved in the crash, and Highway 101 remained open.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is leading the investigation to determine the cause of the vehicle’s departure from the road. The deceased’s identity remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin.
