Semitrailer Collision on Highway 99 Injures Two, Causes Traffic Disruptions

Bakersfield, CA (September 23, 2024) On Friday morning, a 2-vehicle collision on Highway 99 left people hurt and hospitalized.

At approximately 5:38 a.m., Bakersfield CHP responded to a crash on southbound Highway 99 near California Avenue involving a semitrailer and a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The collision resulted in minor injuries to two individuals.

According to investigators, the semitrailer was traveling in the No. 4 lane at an undetermined speed when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered right, hitting a tree on the shoulder. The semitrailer then swerved left, crossing all lanes of traffic, and collided with the pickup truck in the No. 3 lane. After impact, the semitrailer rolled onto its side and crashed into the center divider wall, blocking the No. 1 and 2 lanes.

The semitrailer’s driver, who was the sole occupant, declined medical attention. Two occupants of the pickup truck were transported to Kern Medical with minor injuries. The semitrailer was carrying a load of carrots, which spilled across the highway, requiring several hours of cleanup.

Authorities ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the incident, and the cause remains under investigation.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a truck accident, it’s important to seek medical attention even if the injuries seem minor. Always report the incident to authorities and consult with a legal professional to understand your rights.
