Passenger Fatally Struck on 10 Freeway at Francisquito Avenue
BALDWIN PARK, CA (April 26, 2019) – A man was killed early Friday morning, following a 4-vehicle crash on 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park.
The crash took place around 3:00 a.m., on eastbound 10 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived at the Francisquito Avenue off-ramp soon after.
According to the CHP, a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling eastbound when for unknown reasons, it collided with a 2016 Volkswagen Passat. The Monte Carlo then became disabled in the fast lane.
A passenger in the Monte Carlo, a 25-year-old Vinson Thomasi of Norwalk, exited the vehicle and stood outside.
Soon after, an 18-year-old Ontario woman driving a 2013 Toyota Prius approached the scene. She did not see Thomasi until it was too late. She was unable to stop or slow down in time, consequently striking the victim. Her vehicle then collided with a 1995 Toyota Camry, driven by a 66-year-old West Covina man.
Thomasi suffered fatal injuries due to the impact of the collision. He was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman driving the Prius complained of pain following the accident. She was taken by ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Hospital for further treatment.
Furthermore, the other three drivers remained unharmed.
All lanes of the freeway were closed for about an hour. The first and HOV lanes were reopened around 4:00 a.m., and the other lanes reopened about three hours afterward.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not being ruled out as factors in the crash and no arrests were made at this time.
More details will eventually be released once available. The investigation is currently ongoing to determine more information. Anyone with information can reach the office at 626-338-1164.
During this moment of grief, we would like to extend our sincere sympathies and thoughts of courage and comfort to the family and friends of Vinson Thomasi.
