Injuries Reported in Ferndale Accident on Portal Way
FERNDALE, WA (April 19, 2022) – Thursday, authorities arrested 35-year-old Vincent Russell following a crash on Portal Way.
The incident started at around 5:00 p.m. in the 6600 block of Malloy Road. According to reports, a rollover crash occurred and Vincent Russell fled from the scene.
Then, a pedestrian vs vehicle incident happened in the 6600 block of Portal Way. According to reports, Russell had been walking in the roadway. Then, he ran at vehicles and tried to enter occupied vehicles. Also, Vincent Russell charged a driver as they drove away. Then, the vehicle struck Russell.
When officers arrived, they found Vincent Russell very agitated. His arms were outstretched with his fists clenched while yelling at the officer to shoot him. Despite the presence of the officers, Russell declined to obey and ran instead. He also threatened that he had a gun.
Then, he “aggressively approached officers, deputies and a civilian motorist in the area.” After using a Taser, officers safely took Russell into custody. Then, they took him via ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for evaluation.
Upon release, officers booked Vincent Russell into Whatcom County Jail. Currently, he’s facing the following charges: 2 counts of 1st-degree driving while his license was suspended; attempting to elude a police vehicle; 3rd-degree malicious mischief; possession of a stolen vehicle; possession of the stolen property; and resisting arrest.
