Victoria Fleming Fatally Injured after Hemet Suspected DUI Crash
HEMET, CA (June 12, 2019) – A 61-year-old woman identified as Victoria Fleming died following a suspected DUI crash on Sunday, June 9.
The Hemet Police Department stated that a Ford pickup truck crashed with a Nissan Rogue at the intersection of Lyon Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue at around 6:40 p.m.
The Ford driver traveled east on Commonwealth Avenue when he failed to yield at a stop sign. After that, he entered the intersection and then crashed into Fleming’s Nissan, which was going north on Lyon Avenue.
Fleming sustained serious injuries. She was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the crash site, police said. She later died at the scene.
The pickup truck driver, 53-year-old Todd Schmidt, of San Jacinto, sustained moderate injuries. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.
Investigators believe that the use of illegal drugs and prescription medication may have contributed as a factor in this incident.
Authorities did not release any information on whether there was an arrest in this case. The investigation is still ongoing.
