Oakland City Councilwoman’s Son, 21-Year-Old Victor McElhaney, Fatally Shot in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 10, 2019) – The son of Oakland City Councilwoman, Lynette McElhaney, was fatally shot near USC Campus Sunday morning.
The student was identified as 21-year-old Victor McElhaney.
Dispatchers responded to calls about the shooting shortly after midnight. First responders arrived to the corner of Maple Avenue and Adams Boulevard, less than a mile east of the main campus.
McElhaney was allegedly approached by three or four men during an attempted robbery early that morning. The unidentified men in their 20s eventually shot Victor for unknown reasons, amidst the robbery.
The USC student was found in critical condition upon paramedics arrival. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, due to the extent of his wounds. McElhaney later succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead around 11:00 a.m.
As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests have been made. Further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident have not been given.
Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact state officials immediately. The police department appreciates all tips, as the investigation is ongoing.
