3 Injured in Napa Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 221
NAPA, CA (July 20, 2020) – Early Friday night, James Custer, Janice Wooten, and Victor Gomez suffered injuries in a crash on Highway 221.
The three-vehicle crash occurred just around 6:10 p.m. 69-year-old James Alden Custer of San Ramon traveled north on Highway 221 in a 2017 Harley Davidson Road Glide motorcycle. 64-year-old Janis Lee Wooten rode with Custer at a speed of 40 mph. However, Custer didn’t yield at the red light to turn left onto Magnolia Drive. Unfortunately, 19-year-old Nelson Guarcas Umul of Napa struck the motorcyclist with his 2001 Volkswagen GTI. Umul drove south on Highway 221 at around 45 MPH.
Due to the crash, James Custer and Janice Wooten were thrown off from their motorcycle.
According to reports, Umul traveled in the left lane of Highway 221 southbound traffic. The crash pushed the motorcycle in a southwest direction into a 2017 Ford Explorer. The authorities identified the Ford driver as 58-year-old Victor Garcia Gomez of Vallejo. Meanwhile, the Ford traveled in the right lane of Highway 221 southbound traffic at about 35 MPH when the crash happened.
As a result, James Custer sustained a broken left arm and facial lacerations. Moreover, Janice Wooten sustained a broken left foot and suffered pain in her ribs. Also, Victor Gomez sustained a fractured right wrist.
After receiving treatment at the scene, responders transported Custer, Wooten, and Gomez to Queen of the Valley Medical Center for further treatment.
Furthermore, Umul sustained lacerations to the neck and face. However, he didn’t need further treatment.
Due to the consistent chance of injury or death in an accident, extreme caution should be taken whenever you drive. Also, drive cautiously and always expect the unexpected.
