Fatal ATV Crash at 66th Avenue and Grant Street
MECCA, CA (November 26, 2019) – Two teens riding on an ATV died when the driver ran a stop sign and collided with a pickup Tuesday night in Mecca.
The fatal crash happened around 6:40 p.m. at 66th Avenue and Grant Street.
According to news release, the teens were riding on a 2000 Polaris Predator 500 ATV. The ATV driver, 19-year-old Victor Barajas, ran through the stop sign at the intersection. A 2005 Ford F-150, driven by 47-year-old Jorge Gonzalez of Mecca, struck the Polaris.
The impact ejected Barajas and his passenger, 17-year-old Miguel Bautista, from the ATV. Both were not wearing any protective gear.
Barajas and Bautista both suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Gonzalez was not injured, authorities said.
At this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
