7-Year-Old Boy Dies in Toll Road Crash in Anaheim
ANAHEIM, CA (August 25, 2019) – A 7-year-old Fontana boy was killed when their family car was struck by a van Sunday afternoon in Anaheim.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 241 north of the Windy Ridge Toll Plaza area.
According to the CHP, a black Kia Optima carrying four people became disabled in the second lane of the highway. Meanwhile, a white Ford cargo van was traveling on the same stretch of highway at 75 mph. For unknown reasons, the van struck the rear of the sedan.
As a result, the boy was airlifted to Orange County Global Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified him as Vershad Raggins.
Raggins’ 54-year-old father and two siblings, a 16-year-old and another 7-year-old boy, were also hospitalized. The surviving 7-year-old and the father had major injuries.
The driver of the van only sustained minor injuries.
At this time, authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
