Veronica Avalos Dead, Jesus Vega Airlifted Following Kings County Head-On Crash
KINGS COUNTY, CA (October 21, 2019) — A head-on collision in Kings County left one person dead and another one injured on Friday morning.
The fatal incident occurred near Avenal Cutoff Road and Gale Avenue at around 6:00 a.m. It involved 41-year-old Veronica Avalos of Hanford and 29-year-old Jesus Vega.
An investigation showed that Avalos was driving a red Toyota Camry southbound on Avenal Cutoff Road. When the vehicle in front of her started to pass another car, she tried to follow behind it. However, Avalos failed to complete the passing maneuver and subsequently collided head-on with Vega’s Chevy Bolt.
Avalos died at the scene. On the other hand, emergency personnel airlifted Vega in critical condition.
Both Avalos and Vega are officers at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Avalos worked at Avenal State Prison while Vega at Pleasant Valley State Prison.
