Riverbank, CA (November 28, 2024)–  84-year-old Venustiano Duarte sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Terminal and Townsend Avenues.

A vehicle struck an elderly man during his routine morning walk Saturday in Riverbank, and the driver fled the scene, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department. 

Authorities reported that 84-year-old Venustiano Duarte was walking near Terminal and Townsend avenues between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on November 23 when a medium-sized SUV hit him.

After the incident, a second driver stopped to assist Duarte but did not call 911. Authorities are unsure if this person witnessed the collision. 

Duarte was not taken to the hospital until two days later when law enforcement was contacted. 

Medical evaluations revealed that he suffered a broken arm and a fractured ankle. While he remains in intensive care, his condition is stable.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is urging the driver who assisted Duarte to come forward, as they may have critical information about the hit-and-run. 

Deputies are also reviewing surveillance footage and asking witnesses to aid in the investigation.
