8-Year-Old Child Critically Injured after Collision with Vehicle along Pacific Coast Highway
VENTURA COUNTY, CA (April 5, 2018) – On Thursday evening, an 8-year-old boy was critically injured after a pedestrian collision near Thornhill Broome Beach.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was called in around 6:28 PM. A family from Oxnard was parked along the South Pacific Coast Highway near Thornhill Broome Beach, when their child jumped out the vehicle. He was trying to run across the highway to reach the sand dunes.
Witnesses stated that the oncoming vehicle’s driver was not able to fully stop and hit the boy. A sergeant on the scene confirmed that the driver was not speeding and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the collision happened.
The young victim was airlifted to the Ventura County Medical Center, where it was determined that he suffered a broken leg and head injuries. Emergency responders also noted that the boy was unconscious during the hospital transportation. There is no current update on the victim’s condition.
Several lanes were shut down by authorities to clear the accident area, tow the vehicles involved, and conduct the investigation. Authorities continue to investigate the crash and no other information is available at this time.
