Fatal Early Morning Rollover Crash on Highway 101 in Ventura
VENTURA, CA (December 30, 2018) – One person was killed following a rollover crash early Sunday morning in Ventura.
The fatal crash happened around 4:30 a.m. on southbound Highway 101 near Emma Wood State Beach.
According to the California Highway Patrol, one vehicle had overturned, ejecting one occupant from the car. Multiple other vehicles then crashed afterward.
The victim, only identified as a 22-year-old Oxnard man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
Two other patients were taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center. CHP reports indicate one had major injuries and the other had complained of pain.
The southbound freeway was completely shut down at the Seacliff exit near La Conchita, which is roughly six miles North of the crash site, until around 11:00 a.m. Motorists were directed onto PCH for a detour.
The northbound traffic was not impacted.
Authorities believe that driver fatigue may have contributed to the single-car crash. Further investigation is underway.
