Woman Headed for the Coachella Killed in Rollover Crash
BEAUMONT, CA (April 22, 2019) – A woman was killed following a rollover crash Saturday evening on eastbound 60 Freeway, just West of Jack Rabbit Trail.
The Riverside County Coroner’s office identified the deceased victim as 21-year-old Vanessa Suarez, of Gardena. She was on her way to the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, at the time of the accident.
To begin, the crash happened around 7:25 p.m., in a hilly area locally known as the Badlands. Suarez was reportedly driving a silver 2015 Jeep Patriot. It was also her birthday.
According to reports, the incident began when Suarez became distracted while manipulating her phone. As a result, she struck the center median wall before consequently overturning the vehicle. She was subsequently ejected onto the roadway.
Suarez was then taken to the Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley, due to the extent of her injuries. However, she was eventually pronounced dead around 8:22 p.m.
Reports also indicate that Suarez was not wearing a seat belt at the time. Furthermore, her passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Torrance was wearing her seat belt and survived the wreckage with minor injuries.
Alcohol, drugs and speeding have been ruled out as contributing factors in the crash. The investigation currently remains ongoing. More details will eventually be released once available.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of Vanessa Suarez. We hope they find strength and comfort as they grieve over their loss.
