Matthew Slade, Jerry Ybarra, Paulette Ramirez, Nyrie Taylor, Christabel Bello Injured in DUI Accident on State Route 14
VANCOUVER, WA (February 11, 2018) – The Washington State Patrol reported a second wrong-way, multiple-car collision that injured five people on State Route 14, on Sunday morning around 2:12 AM.
Matthew Slade, 42, of Mill Creek was driving west in the eastbound lanes of SR 14 in a 2012 Mini Cooper, when he struck two other cars while under the influence. He crashed into a 2014 Kia Optima driven by 28-year-old Paulette I. Ramirez from Fairview, Oregon, and a 2000 Honda Passport driven by 53-year-old Salem man, Jerry Ybarra.
Slade, Ramirez, and 34-year-old Nyrie L. Taylor if Portland were injured and taken to the Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland. A passenger in Ybarra’s car, Christabel Bello, 42, was also taken to Legacy Emmanuel for treatment. Ybarra was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center for his injuries.
Slade was charged with DUI and driving on the wrong side of the highway. Ybarra was also charged with DUI.
Eastbound highway 14 from Interstate 5 was blocked off for several hours as evidence was gathered and officials investigated. Officials are unsure where the wrong-way driver entered the highway. The Washington State Department of Transportation reported the reopening of all the lanes at about 6:20 AM.
This was the second wrong-way accident to occur on State Route 14. The other accident occurred about half an hour before this crash, and included three fatalities: Edgar Acosta, Michelle Henriksbo, and Aaron Dohman.
