52-Year-Old Escondido Man Dies after His Pickup Truck Crashes into Sedan in Valley Center
VALLEY CENTER, CA (March 31, 2019) – A man was killed following a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Valley Center, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 7:38 p.m. at the intersection of Valley Center Road and Lilac Road.
According to CHP, a Chevrolet Silverado was heading southbound in the first lane of Valley Center Road. Soon after, a Ford Fusion was also traveling southbound in the second lane. For unknown reasons, the Silverado struck the left front of the Ford sedan.
The Silverado then lost control and veered to the right off the roadway, struck a wood fence that lines a dirt pathway adjacent to the roadway, went down an embankment, rolled over and struck a second fence that lines a second pathway.
The man driving the Silverado, only identified as a 52-year-old Escondido resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has been withheld pending notification of his family members.
The driver of the Ford, a 17-year-old girl, and her 16-year-old passenger, were unharmed.
The southbound lanes of Valley Center Road were partially blocked until around 9:30 p.m. for the on-scene investigation.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash. Authorities are still working on the incident and urging witnesses to call the CHP at 858-637-3800.
