Wrong-Way Driver Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on 80 Freeway in Vacaville
VACAVILLE, CA (January 26, 2019) – One person was killed following a wrong-way DUI crash early Saturday morning in Vacaville.
The fatal crash happened around 1:28 a.m. on eastbound 80 Freeway, near the Vacaville Premium Outlets and the junction of 505 Freeway.
According to an initial report by the CHP, one vehicle was driving the wrong way when it collided head-on with another vehicle.
The man driving the wrong way and the driver of the other car were both taken to a hospital. Sadly, the person in the other car, whose identity has to yet been released, was declared dead.
A wrong-way driver was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
There were no passengers in either car and no other injuries were reported.
A SigAlert was issued in the area, blocking the second and third lanes of eastbound 80 Freeway while officers worked on the scene. All lanes were re-opened just before 3:00 a.m.
Further investigation of this tragic crash is underway.
