Wrong-Way Driver Dies in Fiery Collision on 505 Freeway in Vacaville
VACAVILLE, CA (May 5, 2019) – One person was killed and five others were injured following a fiery multi-vehicle crash late Sunday evening in Vacaville.
The crash took place just after 11:00 p.m. when a male driver of a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of 505 Freeway at Allendale Road.
The Camry then collided head-on into a 2008 Honda Civic. The impact involved at least three other vehicles, one of them was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived.
The unidentified wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two Vacaville residents in the Honda suffered major injuries and were taken to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center, the CHP said. Three others suffered minor injuries.
All lanes of northbound 505 Freeway were closed until about 1:30 a.m. Monday because of the collision.
Alcohol and/or drugs are suspected factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
