Driver Dies and Passenger Injured after Their Car Crashes with Big Rig in Kingsburg
KINGSBURG, CA (March 1, 2019) – A driver was killed and his passenger was injured after their car collided with a big rig Friday night in rural Tulare County.
The fatal crash happened around 6:40 p.m. at the intersection of Road 44 and Avenue 376.
According to reports, a Kia Soul was traveling eastbound on Avenue 376 and ran a stop sign. As it crossed into the Road 44 intersection, the car was struck by the big rig that was heading southbound. The impact caused the big rig to crash a third vehicle traveling northbound on Road 44.
The driver of a Kia, identified as Uriel Sanchez Lopez, 19, of Selma, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His 19-year-old female passenger from Selma was pinned inside the car and crews used equipment to get her out. She was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia with complaints of pain to her back.
No injuries were reported in the third vehicle.
Roadways were closed until around 9:30 p.m. for the investigation.
