17-Year-Old Driver Hospitalized after Crash on Interstate 82 at Exit 52 in Zillah
Zillah, WA (July 3, 2021) – Friday evening, a 17-year-old male driver of Union Gap sustained injuries after crashing into a vehicle on Interstate 82 at Exit 52.
The crash in Zillah happened at around 6:04 p.m. on July 2.
According to a release by the Washington State Patrol, the driver was headed eastbound on I-82 at Exit 52 at the Zillah City Limits.
Reportedly, he was driving at an unsafe speed and was unable to control his vehicle in time to stop the car.
The teen then crashed into the Wapato woman’s vehicle and totaled his car in the process. The woman’s vehicle was stopped at the top of the off-ramp due to traffic.
Moreover, inside the vehicle was the woman and her 5-year-old child. They were uninjured but their vehicle sustained reportable damage.
EMS then took the teen to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital to be medically evaluated and treated.
Meanwhile, the passenger in his vehicle at the time of the crash—another 17-year-old male remained uninjured.
The Union Gap driver was charged with driving at an unsafe speed for those conditions.
No further information regarding his condition has been revealed at this time.
Furthermore, WPS said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this crash.
