Fatal Tow Truck and Mercedes Crash on Mission Boulevard and Lafayette Ave

 
UNION CITY, CA (April 22, 2018) – On Sunday afternoon, two people were killed in an accident involving a tow truck and Mercedes collision on Mission Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.
 
Several 911 calls were received by the Union City police dispatch around 3:30 PM, reporting a crash on Mission Boulevard and Lafayette Avenue. Responding officers found that two vehicles, a silver Mercedes sedan and a tow truck, were involved in the collision.
 
Two people inside the Mercedes were found to be seriously injured, while the driver of the tow truck remained and cooperated with investigators. Paramedics and Alameda County Fire personnel arrived and pronounced the passenger of the Mercedes dead at the scene. The driver was transported to Eden hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
 
The collision affected both the north and south bound lanes of Mission Blvd. which were closed to all vehicular traffic between Lexington Avenue and Tamarack Drive. Mission Boulevard reopened to traffic shortly after 8:30 PM.
 
The names of the deceased victims were being withheld until the Alameda County Coroners Office was able to inform the next of kin. Authorities continue to investigate the fatal incident to determine the exact cause of the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
