One Dead after Truck Crashes Down Embankment in Dutch Flat
DUTCH FLAT, CA ( January 14, 2019) – An unidentified man was killed in a solo-car accident involving a tanker truck Monday morning.
Officials reported the crash occurred before 6:00 AM on the 80 Freeway near Dutch Flat.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck missed a turn, jumped on some rocks and plowed down about two-hundred feet into the embankment. The truck was carrying 7,000 gallons of aviation fuel which spilled when the vehicle flipped over.
Two hazmat units were on the scene to help clean the spill and motorist were notified to take extra precaution for the maintenance crew. The department of Fish and Wildlife also arrived. Officials will be monitoring the area for a few weeks to do more plastic sheeting before it rains.
It is unknown if the driver died at the scene or in a hospital.
CHP does not believe fatigue was a contributing factor. No more details surrounding the case has been disclosed.
