77-Year-Old Woman Struck and Killed by Hit-and-Run Vehicle near Copperfield Drive
SAN JOSE, CA (September 20, 2018) – On Thursday evening, an elderly woman was fatally injured in a pedestrian crash on Vistapark Drive. The deceased victim was later identified as 77-year-old Uma Vishwabhan. Her place of residence was not immediately disclosed.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 7:33 PM near Copperfield Drive.
Officials with the San Jose Police Department stated that Vishwabhan was walking across Vistapark Drive when a dark blue minivan or SUV hit her. The vehicle then fled the scene after the incident, leaving the injured woman in the road.
Vishwabhan was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency responders. She later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
No arrests have been made at this time. It was not clear if alcohol and drugs were possible contributing factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation. No other information has been released to the public, as the authorities continue to investigate.
