Tyretta Yazzie Dead after Auto-Pedestrian Crash on 51st Avenue in Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ (July 11, 2023) – 41-year-old Tyretta Yazzie died early Tuesday morning, and one other pedestrian sustained injuries after a crash on 51st Avenue and Glenrosa.
The fatal crash on 51st Avenue happened around 4:45 a.m. on July 11 just north of Indian School Road.
According to police, officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian near 51st Avenue and Glenrosa, just north of Indian School Road.
They found Yazzie lying in the roadway with critical injuries when they arrived. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. A man was also struck but was not seriously hurt.
The driver in the accident remained at the scene, and impairment is not believed to have played a role. Police believe Yazzie and the man were trying to cross 51st Avenue in the middle of the block when a southbound car tried to avoid them and missed them. The vehicle collided with Yazzie and grazed the man.
Further investigation to determine the cause of the crash is ongoing.
