1 Injured in Pasco Auto Accident on 20th Avenue
PASCO, WA (July 29, 2020) – Late Friday morning, authorities arrested Tyler James May after an injury crash on 20th Avenue.
An officer tried to stop 25-year-old Tyler James May after committing a traffic violation in a silver car around 11:23 a.m. The incident took place on 20th Avenue near Sylvester Street.
According to authorities, Tyler James May didn’t stop and went eastbound on Shoshone Street. He went through a neighborhood toward a city park. Fortunately, the officer managed to follow him a short distance. However, the officer terminated the chase.
Police say May failed to pull over and instead turned eastbound on Shoshone Street, stepping on the gas as he headed through a neighborhood toward a city park. The officer followed him a short distance and terminated the pursuit.
Tyler James May continued fleeing and failed to yield at a stop sign. As a result, he T-boned a blue vehicle on 14th and Shoshone, leading it to spin 180 degrees. The crash left heavy damage to both vehicles.
Meanwhile, an officer saw the suspect went out of his car and fled on foot. However, the officer run after him and detained him while other officers aided the victim driver. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
Charges and Pending Investigations after Pasco Crash
The authorities charged Tyler James May of vehicular assault and attempting to elude police. The authorities are also investigating him for a possible DUI/drug charge.
“In these unfortunate situations, the national training standard and the Pasco PD policy is to terminate a pursuit when the danger to the public down the street is greater than the need to arrest the suspect,” police revealed. “Obviously, the theory and the hope is that if the suspect is only driving recklessly to escape the police, then when the police stop chasing the suspect, the suspect will act in his own best interests, slow down, and create less risk to the public. In this case, the suspect did not slow down.”
