Richard Leader Critically Injured in Fatal Crash on Highway 49 in Auburn
AUBURN, CA (December 4, 2019) – A man was killed and another was critically injured following a high-speed crash Wednesday afternoon in Auburn.
The crash happened around 1:08 p.m. on Highway 49 near Cramer Road.
CHP officials said a Volkswagen Golf was traveling at a high rate of speed when it crashed head-on into a Ford pickup truck. The impact caused the Golf to move sideways across the southbound lanes and was broadsided by an Acura RDX.
The driver of the Golf died upon impact. The Placer County Coroner’s Office identified him as Tyler William Burk, 21, of Auburn.
Meanwhile, paramedics rushed the driver of the Aura, 74-year-old Richard Leader of Grass Valley, to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, with major injuries. Leader remained in critical condition Thursday afternoon.
The 29-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was not injured.
Authorities are investigating the possibility of Burk suffering a medical event prior to the crash.
