Two Injured after Head-on Crash with Big Rig in Santa Ana

 
SANTA ANA, CA (May 16, 2019) – A driver and his passenger suffered critical injuries following a head-on crash in Santa Ana on Monday on May 13.
 
According to the Santa Ana Police Department Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, the incident happened in the area of Harbor Boulevard and McFadden Avenue at about 12:30 p.m.
 
 
A driver traveling westbound on McFadden tried to turn left into the Walmart parking lot. Then, that vehicle struck an Acura moving eastbound on the street, Bertagna stated. A witness at the scene told a local news source that both of the vehicles faced yellow traffic lights.
 
The crash caused the Acura to go up over the center divider and then onto the wrong side of the road. After that, the vehicle collided head-on into a semi-truck. Subsequently causing the Acura to overturn.
 
A group of people at the area helped push the heavily damaged vehicle upright as they waited for the authorities.
 
Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority arrived at the scene and used heavy equipment to extricate both the occupants from the wreckage. They rushed both men to UCI Medical Center in critical condition, including the driver whose injuries were life-threatening.
 
The driver of the big rig – which has some advertisement for Dos Equis beer – was not hurt.
 
Authorities are going to review surveillance footage as they investigate the circumstances of the incident. They are going to determine whether speed was a factor. Investigators discovered marijuana bongs at the scene. Officials are investigating if they are under the influence or not.
 
Authorities shut down McFadden between Harbor and Jackson Street during the investigation. The road has since been reopened.
