6-Vehicle Pileup on 71 Freeway Hills Kills 2 and Injures 5
CHINO HILLS, CA (June 12, 2019) – Two women were killed following a multi-vehicle crash on 71 Freeway Wednesday morning.
The crash happened around 8:15 a.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway. Dispatchers arrived near Butterfield Ranch Road shortly after.
Six vehicles were reportedly involved. CHP says a box truck overturned on top of another vehicle due to the impact. However, the details leading up to the incident are currently unclear.
Furthermore, two women inside a white Honda Accord were killed as a result.
A total of five victims were also hospitalized, including a 15-year-old who was in critical condition as a result of the accident.
The driver of the box truck, who is believed to have caused the crash, will be interviewed by authorities.
All southbound lanes of the freeway were shut down during the rush-hour commute. As a result, traffic was at a standstill for most of the morning. However, the surrounding area was eventually reopened shortly before 1:00 p.m.
The victim’s identities have not yet been released to the public at this time. The full circumstances still currently remain under investigation.
