Steven Garza Arrested after Alleged DUI Crash near Burbank Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 26, 2018) – Two people were killed Tuesday evening and two others were injured, following a suspected DUI collision on Highway 43.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 9:40 PM near Burbank Street. An SUV, driven by 46-year-old Steven Garza, was heading northbound on Highway 43 when a Honda sedan in front of it slowed down to make a left turn onto Burbank. Garza attempted to pass the Honda on the left and broadsided the vehicle as it was turning.
The impact of the collision ejected two of the occupants of the Honda. They were later pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The driver of the Honda sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment and evaluation. Garza was also hospitalized after suffering major injuries, and was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available, and no further details have been released to the public.
