Silvia Gonzales Arrested in DUI Crash on Colorado Road that Kills 2 People
SAN JOAQUIN, CA (November 6, 2019) – Two people died in a fiery DUI crash Wednesday afternoon in Fresno County.
The crash happened just after 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of Colorado Road and Sumner Avenue.
CHP officials said a 42-year-old Silvia Gonzales of Tranquility was driving a Honda CRV southbound on Colorado Avenue when she rear-ended a Mercedes-Benz. The impact caused the Mercedes to go into the northbound lane and into the path of a pickup truck.
As a result, the Mercedes caught fire and two people inside died upon impact. The two victims were so badly burned that officials were unable to determine if the second victim was a child or an adult of small stature.
Meanwhile, the pickup truck oveturned on its roof. The driver, 38-year-old Ivonne Villialpando of Tranquility, and a 1-year-old baby, were airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center.
Gonzales was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of marijuana and another illegal drug.
An investigation of this fatal crash is ongoing.
