Wrong-Way Driving Leads to Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision near South Fairfax Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 21, 2018) – Two people were killed in a crash on East Panama Lane, early Sunday night. The names of the victims were not yet released, pending notification of next of kin.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 6:05 PM, near South Fairfax Road. The fatal incident was caused by wrong-way driving. Initial reports showed that a Nissan pickup truck was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes when it crashed head-on into a Honda Accord.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, due to critical injuries sustained. The paramedics said that four passengers in the Accord were taken to the Kern Medical with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. There is no update on their current medical conditions.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
