2 Men Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Normandie Avenue in Westmont
WESTMONT, CA (September 24, 2019) – Two pedestrians were killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening in the Westmont neighborhood of South Los Angeles.
The crash happened around 8:24 p.m. on Normandie Avenue near 95th Street.
The victims, who were friends, were crossing 95th Street when a speeding Mercedes sedan struck them and fled the scene without stopping to help.
As a result, one of the pedestrians, a 47-year-old man, died on the scene. The other victim, a man in his 20s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
The CHP said the license plate fell off the vehicle and was left behind, allowing officers to track the owner of the vehicle to a nearby home.
Officers immediately recovered the vehicle at 81st Street and Western Avenue, but the driver remained at large. Further investigation is underway.
