Fatal Seven-Vehicle Pileup on 5 Freeway in Lodi
LODI, CA (May 23, 2019) – Two people were killed following a multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Lodi.
Authorities responded to the collision around 7:30 a.m., on northbound 5 Freeway. Dispatchers arrived just south of Highway 12 soon after.
An Arizona woman driving a big rig slammed into several stopped cars on the highway. The impact consequently triggered a series of other collisions.
Furthermore, a semi-trailer was sent over the top of a Hyundai, causing the sedan to catch fire. A Dodge Ram was also engulfed in flames as a result.
The driver of the Hyundai was identified as a 50-year-old man from Stockton, and the driver of a Dodge was identified as a 36-year old Tracy man. Both victims suffered fatal injuries upon impact.
Moreover, a 47-year-old Stockton woman driving a Dodge Journey was immediately transported to a nearby hospital. She was reportedly suffering from minor injuries as a result of the impact.
All northbound lanes near Eight Mile Road were shut down for about five hours. Crews worked to clear the wreckage until around 2:15 p.m., before reopening the roadway.
The victim’s names have not yet been released. Further investigation of this tragic accident is still currently underway.
