Early Head-On Crash on Winchester Road Kills Both Drivers
WINCHESTER, CA (January 24, 2020) – Two people died following a head-on crash early Friday morning in the unincorporated Winchester area of Riverside County.
The crash happened around 1:05 a.m. on Winchester Road, also known as Highway 79, just north of Scott Road.
According to the CHP, a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on Winchester Road when it drifted over the double-yellow line and into the path of the northbound Honda CRV. The vehicles collided head-on.
As a result, both drivers died at the scene. The unidentified victims were sole occupants in their vehicles.
The crash prompted officials to close the northbound lanes of Winchester Road at Scott Road. The southbound lanes of Winchester Road remained open.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation, but alcohol and drugs have not been ruled out as possible contributing factors.
