DUI Suspected in Fatal Head-On Collision on Highway 246
BUELLTON, CA (September 22, 2019) – Two people died in a head-on collision on Highway 246, early Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 3:30 AM. A westbound Honda, driven by a 39-year-old Solvang man, crossed over the center line near Domingos Road. There, the vehicle slammed into an eastbound Toyota driven by a 79-year-old Lompoc woman.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department had to extricate the drivers from the wreckage. Unfortunately, both drivers succumbed to their injuries and died at the scene. Authorities withheld the identities of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.
The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal collision. Investigators will release additional information once it becomes available.
