Deadly Crash on Highway 99 in Nicolaus Sparks Brush Fire
NICOLAUS, CA (August 21, 2019) – Two drivers died in a fiery crash Wednesday afternoon on Highway 99 in Sutter County.
The crash happened around 3:37 p.m. on the northbound direction of the highway at Powerline Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado was crossing out of the southbound lanes and turning into northbound traffic, slamming into a Ford Escape.
The impact sent the Ford SUV a few hundred feet forwad in a ditch. The Chevrolet pickup burst into flames as it skidded into the same ditch, igniting a brush fire.
Emergency crews arrived and extinguished the fire as others tried to save lives.
Sadly, both drivers were killed in the crash. They were the only occupant in their vehicles.
The crash blocked a portion of northbound Highway 99 for the on-scene investigation, according to the CHP.
