41-Year-Old Woman and 13-Year-Old Girl Fatally Injured in Head-On Collision near Reynolds Highway, Robert Maffia Involved
WILLITS, CA (September 29, 2018) – Two people were killed in a fiery crash on Highway 101, mid-Saturday afternoon. The victims were only identified as a 41-year-old woman from Dos Rios and a 13-year-old girl from Willits.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 3:47 PM, near Reynolds Highway.
As per reports, the woman and girl were in a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck that was traveling on the highway at an unknown rate of speed when it lost control and crossed into the southbound lane. There, it collided with a 1997 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by 76-year-old Robert Maffia of Ukiah. Maffia tried to avoid the pickup truck, but his Peterbilt collided with the driver’s side of the Dodge.
The pickup then spun out of the roadway and came to rest on the west shoulder of the US 101. Mafia’s truck has a load of lumber, that spilled off the trailer and onto the roadway.
