Sedan Rear-Ends Truck in Fatal Collision Involving Big Rig on 5 Freeway
ELK GROVE, CA (November 17, 2019) – Two people were killed after a car crashed into a big rig on 5 Freeway southbound on Sunday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened near Hood-Franklin Road at approximately 9:00 PM.
Based on a report, the traffic stopped due to another crash in the southbound lanes. The victims’ Nissan sedan slammed into the back of the big rig. The car traveled 70 miles per hour and did not hit the brakes before the impact.
The driver and passenger of the sedan were proclaimed dead at the scene. The big rig driver did not suffer injuries.
Southbound 5 Freeway closed for a time. However, it open after two hours. Police said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
