UC Irvine Shuttle Struck by Vehicle in Red-Light Accident near Illinois Avenue
NEWPORT BEACH, CA (February 13, 2020) – Two people were injured in a UC Irvine shuttle crash on Irvine Avenue late Wednesday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Illinois Avenue just before 10:00 PM.
Reports showed that the collision occurred between a UC Irvine student transportation van and a Chevrolet Suburban.
The Suburban ran a red light and caused the crash.
The Chevy driver and one of the passengers of the shuttle were then transported to a trauma center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities closed the intersection while they conducted rescue and clearing operations; however, the area is now open.
No additional information has been released to the public, as the investigation continues.
