Two Hospitalized in Phelan Speeding Crash on 15 Freeway

PHELAN, CA (January 28, 2019) — A multi-car traffic accident in the Cajon Pass left two people injured on Saturday, January 26.

The collision was reported at around 3:20 p.m., on the northbound 15 Freeway approximately one mile north of Highway 138.

The California Highway Patrol incident log stated that a white Chevy Caprice was driving reckless at high speeds and going in and out of traffic before colliding into a silver Ford SUV.

San Bernardino County Firefighters received calls that one person was thrown off prompting a request for Reach Helicopter H325.

Anthony Islas, one of the persons involved in the crash, was coming up the hill and stated that a car with two young people was speeding very fast. Islas said a male was driving the old cop car when he spun out and struck a semi and the SUV. His girlfriend was thrown out of the vehicle because of the impact and she sustained serious injuries.

The woman was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center and a second person was brought by ground ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries.

CHP temporarily stopped southbound traffic as H325 landed on the freeway. Multiple lanes of traffic were affected by the crash.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.
