Jacob Garza Arrested after Three-Vehicle Crash in Speed Street in Santa Maria
Santa Maria, CA (November 9, 2020) – Sunday afternoon, a 20-year-old Jacob Garza was arrested after a three-vehicle crash injuring two people in Speed Street and Stowell Road.
According to reports, Garza allegedly followed and interjected himself into the vehicle rally of President Donald Trump, throwing items and yelling at participants.
The rally continued westbound, and Garza turned onto College Drive and ended up traveling at high speed south on Speed Street, where he hit an eastbound vehicle, which then struck a third vehicle.
As a result, the second vehicle overturned, injuring the two occupants, with one person having a fractured arm and the other having bruising.
“We don’t know if he tried to flee, we don’t know if he got pulled out of the car, we don’t know how it began other than there was an altercation that occurred,” police said, adding that responding officers saw people holding Garza on the ground.
Currently, Garza is detained on suspicion of reckless driving causing injury, which is a misdemeanor allegation.
Furthermore, on a GoFundMe page, Garza started early Monday; he has claimed as “the victim of a hate crime.”
However, “the initial investigation did not reveal any evidence the incident had any ties to a hate crime or that other drivers followed Garza when he turned off Stowell Road.“ Santa Maria police said.
