Zsophia Lighstep Injured in Two-Car Crash near Marysville Road

YUBA COUNTY, CA (May 2, 2018) – A head-on collision on Highway 49 near Marysville Road, took the life of two young people from Nevada County, late Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the fatal accident took place near the Nevada-Yuba County line, and just south of Camptonville. California Highway Patrol Greg Tassone stated that 20-year-old Zsophia Lighstep of Dobbins was traveling southbound on the highway in a Nissan Pathfinder.

At the same time, a Toyota Scion driven by a 17-year-old female from Grass Valley was approaching the northbound direction of the two-lane highway. She was distracted while driving, and swerved, causing a head-on collision with the Nissan.

The Scion went down a twenty-foot embankment off the side of the road. Lightstep and her two passengers, ages 20 and 17, were trapped inside the vehicle. She suffered minor injuries, while both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and suffered moderate injuries.

No additional information has been released to the public at this time, including the names of the people involved in this tragic incident.

Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the two deceased victims. May they rest in peace.
