Two Killed in Ontario Accident on 60 Freeway near Archibald Avenue
ONTARIO, CA (January 3, 2019) – A Colton man and a Moreno Valley woman died in a solo-car crash on Saturday, December 29.
The 25-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were not yet identified by the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office on Sunday afternoon, pending notification of loved ones.
According to witnesses, a white 1999 Volkswagen Jetta traveling westbound on the 60 Freeway east of Archibald Avenue shortly before 8:40 p.m. was moving at approximately 80 mph when it merged from the No. 3 to the No. 4 lane heading into the freeway’s slower lanes.
For an undetermined reason, the vehicle suddenly turned right crossing the No. 5 lane and leaving the roadway. The Jetta became airborne and crashed with a palm tree which was growing in the descending dirt embankment, the CHP stated.
The vehicle came to a stop on its wheels at the bottom of the embankment.
The man, who was driving, was thrown off from the vehicle. Both the man and the woman died at the scene.
