Delana Woman Fatally Injured in Accident near Road 184, Manuel Aguirre Arrested for DUI
TULARE COUNTY, CA (May 9, 2018) – On Wednesday morning at 9:41 AM, a fatal solo-car crash into Friant Kern Canal, was reported by the California Highway Patrol.
According to reports, 31-year-old Manuel Aguirre of Earlimart, was driving his vehicle westbound on Avenue 24. For unknown reasons, he crossed over into the eastbound lane, where he crashed into a bridge abutment over the Friant Kern Canal on the south side of the roadway.
The car then proceeded to crash into the canal and submerge into the water. Aguirre was able to free himself and swim to shore, while his female passenger died at the scene. The identity of the Delano woman has not yet been released. She was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
Aguirre sustained moderate injuries and was arrested under the suspicion of driving under the influence. Police officials believe that drugs or alcohol may have been contributing factors in the fatal accident, and arrested him on site.
