Naked Man Fatally Struck while Running Across 280 Freeway at McLaughlin Avenue
SAN JOSE, CA (March 28, 2019) – A naked man was struck and killed while running across the freeway Thursday morning in San Jose, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 8:37 a.m. on southbound 280 Freeway, just North of McLaughin Avenue.
The man was spotted on the right shoulder and ran toward the center divider, when he was struck in the third lane by a 2012 Isuzu box truck.
The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as a 21-year-old Trevor Tangerose.
The box truck swerved to the left and crashed into a gray 2011 Toyota. A white 2015 BMW that was directly behind the Isuzu also swerved to the left to avoid the man and crashed into the box truck. None of the motorists were injured.
The Isuzu was a city vehicle being driven by a library employee.
Three of the six southbound lanes were closed for about two and a half hours while officers worked on the scene. Lanes were re-opened around 11:15 a.m.
The incident remains under investigation.
We offer our thoughts and condolences to the family and friends of Trevor Tangerose as they search for peace and comfort.
