Man with Shopping Cart Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 67 in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (June 9, 2019) – A transient man was killed following a pedestrian crash early Sunday morning in El Cajon, CHP officials said.
The victim, believed to be homeless, was pushing a shopping cart along the southbound lanes of Highway 67 around 3:33 a.m., when he stepped in front of an oncoming 2002 Ford F-150 near the intersection of 8 Freeway.
The driver of the pickup truck was unable to stop in time and hit the man and the cart.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead before he could be taken to a hospital.
The driver, a 27-year-old El Cajon man, stopped after the crash. He was not believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
It is unknown if charges has been filed and liability has not yet been determined. Further investigation is underway.
