Mattawa Man Tranquilino Sandoval Guerrero Dies in Vehicle Crash on Highway 243 [Mattawa, WA]

Mattawa, WA (December 12, 2024) – Tranquilino Sandoval Guerrero, 36, of Mattawa, was killed in a vehicle crash on Highway 243 Tuesday afternoon.

The fatal three-vehicle crash happened past 4 p.m. north of Mattawa.

WSP said Tranquilino Sandoval Guerrero was a passenger in a 1999 Honda Civic that was rear-ended by a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Dexter Christensen of Quincy.

Troopers said the pickup truck was traveling north when it struck Sandoval’s car, while it was waiting for another vehicle to make a left turn from the freeway onto Road 23 Southwest. 

The driver of Sandoval’s vehicle, 24-year-old Isidro Ibarra Birrueta, also of Mattawa, was airlifted to Confluence Health Hospital Central Campus.

Moreover, responding officers said Christensen was inattentive while driving, but drugs and alcohol were not involved in the collision. 

The authorities are considering charging Christensen with vehicular homicide.
