MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ (May 27, 2024) – Sunday morning, a tragic wrong-way crash on State Route 87 killed three people.

The incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. on State Route 87, south of Shea Boulevard.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a southbound vehicle that was traveling in the northbound lanes collided head-on with another vehicle.

Moreover, responders confirmed that three occupants of the northbound vehicle died in the crash.

Furthermore, the crash closed the northbound lanes of the freeway but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the Arizona Department of Public Safety continued to investigate the crash.
